# Rethinking bathroom pods with Specpod: buildable, fire-rated and flexible

Specpod, developed by Specwall, is a panelised hybrid bathroom solution designed to streamline bathroom construction across residential, student, hotel and PRS developments. By combining off-site preparation with on-site assembly, Specpod provides a practical alternative to traditional pre-finished pods, while improving programme control and reducing on-site risk.

**Designed for performance and simplicity**

Specpod bathrooms are built in situ using precision-cut panels that arrive ready for installation. Service penetrations are pre-formed, fixing locations marked, and components tailored to the specific layout of each unit. The result is a fit-for-purpose system that integrates easily into standard construction programmes.

**Fire-rated and fit for purpose**

- **Two-hour fire rating**: Each Specwall panel used in the Specpod system is fire-rated for a minimum of two hours.
- **Four-hour fire break**: When bathrooms are installed back-to-back, the combined structure achieves a four-hour fire break, no additional wall build-up required.

**Moisture behaviour and hygiene reassurance**

Specwall panels are water permeable, allowing them to absorb a small amount of moisture which will dry out naturally. This does not affect the fibre cement facing or the panel’s structural integrity. Specwall does not promote mould growth, making it a suitable choice for early-stage installations or projects where moisture exposure is likely.

**Built on-site for greater control**

- Packs can be delivered and handled with standard equipment; a crane or hoist may be needed for upper floors.
- Early access for mechanical and electrical trades thanks to integrated service runs and risers
- Bathroom finishes, sanitaryware and fittings can be confirmed later in the programme

**Flexible finish options**

Specwall supports a wide range of finishes applied directly to the panel surface, including:

- Paint
- Skim coat
- Tape and joint
- Spray plaster
- Render
- Tile

This allows greater flexibility in programming and appearance while maintaining fire performance and structural integrity.
