Specwall A1 Panel Secures Patent Pending Status

Specwall achieves formal recognition for the unique design and performance of its A1-rated wall system.

Specwall is pleased to confirm that its A1-rated wall system has now achieved patent pending status — a key milestone that reflects the distinct approach and technical advantages offered by the product.

Unlike traditional drywall, blockwork or SFS systems, Specwall’s panels bring together multiple performance benefits in a single, factory-made solution. This includes a high fire rating, fast installation times, and the ability to simplify follow-on trades.

Designed for today’s build challenges

The A1 panel system offers a number of advantages for contractors, architects and developers looking for efficient, compliant and robust solutions:

  • A1-rated to EN 13501-1: Non-combustible, suitable for high-risk environments
  • Fast to install: Speeds up programmes and reduces on-site labour
  • Integrated M&E zones: No chasing or cutting required
  • Pre-finished surfaces: Removes the need for plasterboard or wet trades
  • Lightweight but strong: Easier handling without sacrificing durability
  • More sustainable: Less waste, reduced vehicle movements and lower embodied carbon

Because panels can be installed ahead of weatherproofing, Specwall also allows for earlier sequencing compared to traditional systems.

A practical step forward for construction

Achieving patent pending status helps formalise the distinct qualities of the A1 system — developed in direct response to industry needs.

“From day one, Specwall has been about solving real-world problems for contractors and clients,” said Phil Jay, CEO of Specwall.
“This patent pending status is an important recognition of how far the system has come — and how it continues to offer something genuinely different in terms of buildability, compliance and project delivery.”

In use across the UK

The A1 panel system is already being used on major projects across the UK — spanning healthcare, education, residential and commercial developments. Clients have reported programme savings, smoother coordination between trades, and greater confidence in fire safety compliance.

At Victoria Riverside in Manchester, A1 fire rated panels were chosen for the risers as an alternative to traditional blockwork.

“Most notably, the A1 fire rated Specwall system, chosen for its high fire performance, has allowed risers to commence on site as a quicker and cleaner alternative to standard blockwork.”

This project is a strong example of how Specwall helps meet non-combustibility requirements for high-rise developments while improving on-site efficiency.
