We were delighted to attend the launch of the Green Skills Academy by the Growth Company this month. The Academy is Greater Manchester’s hub for emerging technologies, and will provide a space for apprentices, engineers and businesses to collaborate.
The centre is located in Trafford Park and is the first of its kind in the North of England. It is designed to play a critical role in helping Greater Manchester and the UK achieve their net zero carbon targets. To achieve this, it houses industry-standard green technologies for businesses and individuals to gain the knowledge and skills to install and maintain them.
This was demonstrated at the launch event which showcased many of the region’s most advanced and progressive technologies, including:
We also heard from a range of speakers including Mrs D Hawkins JP LLB, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, about the threats of climate change and the importance of acting now; Roosevelt Alexander, Director of the Academy, who spoke about the collaboration and commitment that has taken place to design and build the learning hub and all the exciting facilities that we have brought together into one building; and Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham who officially opened the Academy, recognising its importance in helping drive forward Greater Manchester's ambitions towards of being net zero by 2038.
We then took the opportunity to explore the Academy’s model low-energy smart home which used all the green technologies on display. Seeing them in action was informative and glimpse of a possible future where sustainability concerns are taken seriously and placed at the forefront of construction and property.
As a company, our goals are aligned with those of the Academy. Our focus on sustainability, recyclability and closing the skills gap runs through everything we do. We are excited to see how the Green Skills Academy promotes these goals through its work and helps make Greater Manchester a Net Zero region by 2038.
Specwall is an ideal product to make that happen and its attributes mean it complements the other technologies at the Green Skills Academy perfectly.
Our advanced interior and exterior wall system includes inherent insulation, acoustic and fire ratings in the form of a lightweight solid A1- and A2-rated panels which exceed current fire safety regulations and are ready to decorate.
It is not affected or damaged by water or mould and can be installed before the building is watertight making it suitable for pre-build, Cat A and Cat B installs.
Our single-visit construction process cuts the skills gap down substantially, as well as reducing overall wastage, programme time and transport emissions. Furthermore, it is fully reusable in situ and recyclable at the end of a building’s life.
By working together with the Green Skills Academy and other similar organisations in the Greater Manchester region, Specwall can contribute positively to a Net Zero future and make a difference to all projects large or small.
