Healthcare buildings demand precision, durability and strict compliance with health and safety standards. Traditional construction methods such as blockwork and plasterboard often struggle to meet these complex requirements. Specwall offers a certified, practical solution for hospitals, clinics and laboratories, combining fire safety, infection control and cost efficiency into one wall system.
Engineered for Healthcare Environments
Hospitals are high-traffic environments with specific needs for hygiene, acoustic control and fire resistance. Specwall panels are available in A1 and A2 fire classifications, meeting rigorous standards such as BS EN 1364 and BS EN 1366-1. These ensure integrity under fire conditions up to 180 minutes.
Specwall panels can be finished directly with hygienic coatings such as anti-bacterial paints or tiles, avoiding the need for additional substrates. The panels are water permeable, meaning they absorb minimal moisture but dry naturally without delaminating or compromising integrity. Specwall also does not promote mould growth, a key consideration during early-stage installation phases.
Infection Control and Impact Resistance
Wall finishes in healthcare must withstand intensive cleaning. Specwall’s dense, fibre-reinforced core provides resilience to routine impacts from hospital beds, trolleys, and cleaning equipment—reducing repair costs and improving safety over time.
Because Specwall can be installed before a building is watertight, it offers greater flexibility during fit-out and can maintain performance even in incomplete environmental conditions.
Speed, Sustainability and Cost Efficiency
Specwall supports single-visit installation and rapid mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) integration. Penetrations can be made off-site or on-site without weakening the panel's performance. This reduces labour, waste and programme duration—essential in fast-tracked healthcare schemes.
As a fully demountable system, Specwall allows future reconfigurations of hospital floor plates without excessive disruption, enabling trust estates to adapt to changing medical needs. Specwall panels are also recyclable, helping to meet BREEAM targets for sustainability.
